Matt Becker is a lifelong conservative Republican with significant roots in Pinellas County. After spending 8 years working in Washington, DC on federal public policy issues like education, small business and labor, Matt and his wife left Washington, DC to live and work in Pinellas County full time. Matt’s wife, Amanda, grew up in Safety Harbor and graduated from Countryside High School. When they started their family, it was important to them to move home to raise their family in Florida. Now he is running for Congress to represent the 13th District covering most of Pinellas County.
In 2006, Matt began working as a banker in southern Pinellas County, where his main office was in downtown St. Petersburg, and covered multiple offices in the area. For the next 5 years, Matt worked, volunteered and was involved in the community of St. Petersburg.
In 2011, Matt accepted a role with the Tampa Bay Host Committee for the Republican National Convention. In this role, Matt was very active in promoting the small business community across Tampa Bay and promoting the Tampa Bay region to the world. The Republican National Convention had a $214 million direct economic impact to the Tampa Bay region. Matt and his team put together small business matchmaking events and an online small business directory for the Convention.
In 2014, Matt and his wife decided to invest even more into this community and become small business owners themselves when they opened a staffing firm in Clearwater. As the owner of the staffing firm, Matt has traveled throughout Pinellas County meeting with business executives, owners and management. In addition, he has spent a significant amount of time interviewing potential candidates for roles. Matt, his wife, and their team have worked with many industries in their staffing firm from manufacturing facilities to law firms, call centers and a variety of small to medium-sized businesses.
With all of his various professional experiences, Matt is uniquely qualified to represent Pinellas County in Congress because he knows how federal public policy is developed in Washington, DC, what challenges and opportunities Pinellas County is facing and what both business owners and citizens worry about for our future.
